Barossa Museum

Barossa Museum
  • Category:Tours & Experiences
  • Location:Barossa Valley, SA

It all began in 1963 when many people in the area became concerned about the increase in the demolition of old cottages and buildings, and the number of historic artifacts which were fast disappearing from the district as a result of auction sales.

The museum itself was initially set up in a former Saddler's shop. It was officially opened on Tanunda (Brass) Band Contest Day, November 1963. The museum later moved to an old general store across the road.

In 1967, the old Post Office faced demolition. In an effort to preserve the building it was purchased, and in 1972 the Museum was moved to its current premises. In 2001 a new building was added, and today early Barossa Valley traditions and artifacts stay well preserved in this fine old building and adjoining addition.
