History of Esperance

European history dates back to 1627 when the Dutch vessel Gulden Zeepaert, skippered by Franã§ois Thijssen, passed through the blue waters off the Esperance coast. French explorers are credited with making the first landfall near the present day town, naming it and other local landmarks whilst sheltering from a storm in this area in 1792. The town itself was named after the French ship, the L'Espã©rance, commanded by Bruni d'Entrecasteaux. Esperance, roughly translated, is French for 'hope'.

The area of the Esperance townsite was first settled by the Dempster family in the 1870s, and in 1876 a telegraph station was opened here. The formal gazettal of the townsite did not occur until 1893.

The property features Three bedrooms that can be configured into king beds or two single beds in each room. Sleeps up to eight with two foldaway beds. Spacious bathroom with deep bath and easy access separate shower. Linen and towels supplied. Flat screen TV and DVD player. Reverse cycle air-conditioning in all rooms. Washing machine and dryer. Microwave oven, gas hot plates, large oven and fridge freezer. Outdoor setting and BBQ . Large grassed area and balconies. Full gourmet kitchen facilities. High chair and portable cot available upon request. Comfortable modern furnishings. Tea and coffee provided. Iron and ironing board. No smoking inside or pets.

Directions: Follow the signs for the Tourist / Great Ocean Drive. On Twilight Beach Road you'll see a sign to turn right onto Riche Road then turn left onto Stewart Street and it's at the top of the hill at Number 38.
